Rose lovers

The ‘Rosenfreunde’ working group within our association has been in existence for over 35 years. It is also one of 40 ‘Freundeskreise’ (friends’ groups) of the Deutsche Rosengesellschaft e.V. This charitable association has been in existence since 1883 and is based in Baden-Baden. The Rose Lovers’ Group regularly brings together people who are interested in the diverse genus Rosa (the rose) – historic roses, natural-looking roses, single-flowered roses, roses that can climb trees or find a home in even the smallest of gardens. Of course, other plants such as perennials and grasses are also of interest, as are garden design issues and the significance of roses in nature – for insects, for example. The Haldensleben Friends’ Circle regularly organises talks, rose discussions, excursions and garden visits for members and guests, with the aim of broadening knowledge of roses and getting to know like-minded rose enthusiasts. These events are supported by the German Rose Society (Deutsche Rosengesellschaft e.V.). Anyone interested is always warmly welcome to attend any of the events. A highlight every year is the Open Gardens Day in Haldensleben and other towns in the district. On this day, members and non-members of the society open their gardens to visitors, show them around and treat them to coffee and cake. There is always a great deal of interest.
